TRIALS
If being a Muslim means living a stress/problem-free life,
who on this planet would not be a Muslim? But it is not so, trying times would
come for both the believers and non-believers as Allah(s.w.t) said;
“And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient”
Quran (2v 155)
Trials are however a test of faith and they come in various
forms which includes emotional break-down, loss, stress, addiction, failure at
achieving a goal, the rising of doubts, etc. but remember and don’t forget the
threat/promise of the chief deceiver(shaytan) to destroy you and make sure that
in the end you are ruined, this is a goal he is determined to achieve and from
this we seek refuge in Allah(s.w.t).
Trials are also blessings in disguise, as Allah(s.w.t) says;
“Fighting has been enjoined upon you while it is hateful to you. But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah Knows, while you know not.”
Quran (2v 216)
The more challenges you face and overcome (with faith), the
more believing and strong in faith you become and your actions in times of
trials indicates how believing you are.
The difference
however between when a believer and a non-believer is tested, is that while a believer
is recompensed(i.e. rewarded) rewarded for his patience, the non-believer gets
nothing as we learn from the saying of the Prophet(s.a.w)
“How wonderful is the affair of the believer, for his affairs are all
good, and this applies to no one but the believer. If something good happens to
him, he is thankful for it and that is good for him. If something bad happens
to him, he bears it with patience and that is good for him.”
Also, trials for a believer is a test of faith one by which you prove your sincerity to Allah(s.w.t).
“Do the people think that they will be left to say, "We
believe" and they will not be tried?
But We have certainly tried those before them, and Allah will surely make evident those who are truthful, and He will surely make evident the liars.”
Qur’an (29v 2-3)
Be patient, contented and grateful.
We ask Allah(s.w.t) by his might and power to keep us firm
upon faith(in good and otherwise) for indeed He(subhanok) is the mighty and we
are the weak.
